Who we are
productengineers.com is the website of The Product Engineers Podcast, operated by Giuseppe Silletti, based in Italy. For anything in this policy, write to [email protected]. Under the GDPR, Giuseppe Silletti is the data controller for the personal data described here.
What we collect
If you subscribe. When you sign up for the newsletter or create a free member account, we store your email address, an optional name, and basic attribution about how you found us (for example, which page you signed up from). When we send you an email, we may see basic engagement statistics, such as whether it was opened.
If you comment. Comments are open to members. We store the comments you write, linked to your member account.
If you just visit. We don't run analytics or advertising trackers. Like almost every website, our infrastructure providers process technical data (IP address, browser type, pages requested) in server logs to serve the site and protect it from abuse.
Cookies
We use only functional cookies: a session cookie that keeps you signed in as a member, and security cookies set by Cloudflare (such as __cf_bm) to tell humans from bots. There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Who processes your data
We rely on a small set of service providers to run the site:
- Ghost — the publishing platform that powers the site, membership, and newsletter, including its email delivery service.
- Cloudflare — content delivery and security in front of the site; it processes visitor IP addresses to filter malicious traffic.
- Google Fonts — the site's typefaces are loaded from Google's servers, which see your IP address when your browser requests them.
- Transistor — episode audio streams from Transistor's servers, which see your IP address when you press play.
These providers process data on our behalf or as needed to deliver their service. Some of them are based in the United States; where data leaves the EU, transfers rely on the safeguards those providers offer, such as standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
The site also links out to Discord, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, and Buy Me a Coffee. Once you follow a link, the privacy policy of that platform applies, not this one.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for anything beyond running the podcast, the blog, and the newsletter.
Legal bases
We send you the newsletter based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing. We process technical and security data based on our legitimate interest in keeping the site online and safe.
How long we keep it
Member data stays as long as your account exists. Unsubscribe from any email with one click, or ask us to delete your account and data entirely — we'll do it without fuss.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for access to your data, correction, deletion, a portable copy, or restriction of processing, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interest. Email [email protected] to exercise any of these. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority; in Italy that's the Garante per la Protezione dei Dati Personali.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll update this page and note the new date at the top.
